A new market with a difference is coming to Sligo. Every Thursday starting July 2nd from 3pm - 6pm The Organic Centre, Rossinver, County Leitrim will be running a 'Grow your Own' Market with its own stall at St Michael's Family Life Centre on Church Hill.

The market will have a focus on fresh and local produce with everything from succulent veggies and herbs to delicious jams, bread and eggs. The unique feature of the market is its shared space with the local HSE funded Community Food Project Garden which has been running at St Michael's since 2004.

Visitors to the market will be able to buy potted vegetable and herb plantlets for their own gardens, get expert 'Grow Your Own' Advice' from the gardeners and visit the community garden in action from 3pm - 5pm.

First time visitors to the market will also be able to avail of a special offer. The Organic Centre in partnership with Glenisk, the organic yoghurt company, have over 10,000 FREE seeds to give away as part of the summer of 'Grow Your Own' celebration. Just pop into the market to pick up your free seeds and yoghurt vouchers and you can also sign up for regular, free gardening advice newsletters.

Andy Hallewell of the Organic Centre commented: "The whole idea behind the Community Food Project is to provide grow your own skills to people managing on a tight budget, which nowadays is more or less all of us. The Sligo 'Grow Your Own' Market will be an opportunity for people to pick up a healthy treat for the weekend but also to save money in the longterm by growing their own food at home."

The 'Grow Your Own Market' is being run in partnership with Mary Luthers of Bluebell Organic Farm and with the kind support of St Michael's Family Life Centre. St Michael's who provide a range of valuable services to the local community including programmes in personal development, parent education, counselling and support groups.
