Death of Phil Tuohy
The death occurred on January 23rd last of Phil Tuohy (nee O'hara) late of Kincullew, Aclare. Aged 82 years, Phil was an active woman all her life until poor health slowed her over the last couple years. A past pupil of Castlerock Primary School and an Irish school in Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo. Phil then went on to train as a primary school teacher in Carysfort Training College. After teaching in Co. Wicklow and other schools she then came back to her native Aclare and was Principal of Kilmactigue Primary School for about 35 years up until her retirement. Besides being a teacher, Phil was a great community activist, and was secretary of Aclare Development Council for about 15 years, being instrumental in starting up the now famous Aclare St. Patrick's Day Parade. The ceili in Kilmactigue Community Centre was also her baby. Phil showed a great interest in her past pupils and when meeting them years after they left her she would always enquire as to their present work, education and family. Many sad and joyous occasions at Kilmactigue Church were graced with music organised by Phil. Her remains reposed at the Brennan Funeral home, Kilmactigue prior to removal to Kilmactigue Church and burial took place in Kilmactigue cemetery. Phil is survived by her husband Dan, son Justin, daughter Maria, cousins and many friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. May she rest in peace
