Corran College
LET PROGRAMME
TEN OF our first year students attended the second residential of the LET programme recently. The students were involved in both enterprise and outdoor activities with students from their two partner schools from Northern Ireland. The aim of the programme is to promote peace and reconciliation between young people from Northern Ireland and the border counties of the Republic of Ireland.
MUSIC GENERATION
THE U2-funded Music Generation began its "Discovering Music" programme in Corran College on 26th January. First year music students will engage in vocal and instrumental tuition with their tutor, Karl Burthom, over the next eight weeks.
FRACTURING DEBATE
DANIEL HOFFMAN, LCA2 was interviewed for the Michael Sweetman Educational Trust on January 18th last. He chose to present the controversial topic of "Hydraulic Fracturing" for his oral presentation at the interview. This competition is open to all LCA students in VEC schools throughout the country and 24 lucky winners will win a trip to attend the Euroscola in Strasbourg. We wish Daniel well in his quest to secure one of those places.
SHAKESPEARE PLAY
OUR LEAVING Certificate students attended the well known Shakespearian play, Hamlet, in Dublin on the 18th January. The play was very enjoyable and proved to be excellent revision for the upcoming mock examinations. Thanks to Ms O'grady and Ms Conlon for organising and accompanying the students on the day.
MOCK INTERVIEWS
JOE PRIOR, a retired English and Career Guidance teacher, conducted interviews with all our Leaving Certificate Applied students as part of their Vocational, Preparation and Guidance task. This was a very beneficial exercise for the LCA students as they prepare for continuing education or the world of work.
