Bill is a top US businessman
Tubbercurry native Bill Burke has been selected as one of 31 top business leaders in the United States.
Burke is vicechairman and director of Country Bank, a commercial bank with branches in Manhattan, Bronx and Westchester County in New York.
He features among the Irish Voice newspaper's first annual Best Business Leaders issue which looks and Irish and Irish Americans making names for themselves in the business world.
The newspaper states that regardless of the doom and gloom, its 31 business leaders for 2009 have found ways to survive and prosper.
"Some have been in business for many years and bring a wealth of experience to their endeavours while others are building their careers one step at a time and showing great fortitude in the process," according to the "Voice."
It adds: "As we face into an uncertain 2010, with the recession in full swing and unemployment still rising, it's leaders such as our distinguished group of professionals who will help lead the way toward better days for all."
Burke is described as "one of the outstanding leaders in the Irish American community in New York for over three decades."
"Throw a stone in Manhattan and chances are you will hit an Irish business that Burke helped finance and set up. He is that legendary old style banker, one who does deals on trust and his intimate knowledge of the community he has served for decades," the "Voice" stated.
A former senior vicepresident of Bank of Ireland in New York and Barclays Bank, Burke's goal is to expand Country Bank in the coming years.
He has been awarded an array of accolades in the Irish American community, none more significant that leading hundreds of thousands up Fifth Avenue in 1988 as the grand marshal of the New York St. Patrick's Day Parade, the largest civilian parade in the world.
He lives in New Rochelle, New York.
