Quigley is spot on as Rovers beat SD Galway

AGAINST A background of uncertainty surrounding manager, Paul Cook, Sligo Rovers made it two wins out of two in their pre-season campaign as they defeated the newly renamed SD Galway F.C. 1-0 in Drom last Saturday afternoon.

Mark Quigley got the games only goal from the penalty spot in the second half. The game though was overshadowed by the absence from the sideline of Cook with Ian Foster and Gerry Carr taking the team for the game.
Injuries kept Jason Mcguinness and Joseph N'DO out of the game but other than that all of the players in the squad got a run out including three trialists – Seid Khiter, Stephen Maher and David Cawley. In a game which was heavily affected by the inclement weather conditions it was Rovers who dominated affairs.
Alan Keane and Iarfhlaith Davoren both had early chances for Rovers with Davoren's being the closest. He cut in from the left and unleashed a shot which was the shaved the outside of the post on its way wide.
SD Galway F.C. keeper Ronan Burke was then called into action to save shots from John Dillon and Lee Lynch.
Lynch then nearly provider for Keane and while Keane beat Burke with his shot from the edge of the box it hit off the crossbar.
The second half was disrupted by both sides making a number of substitutions.
Rovers though did get the games only goal on the hour mark. Dillon played in Danny North and he was brought down inside the box by SD Galway F.C. Eric Holland and a penalty was awarded. Quigley confidently dispatched the resulting spot kick.
