New bid expected for Amond

Friday August 27 2010

Sligo Rovers are expecting Portugese club Pacos Ferreira to return with a second bid for in-form striker Padraig Amond.

Rovers have already told Amond’s admirers that their initial offer of €30,000 is way below their valuation and feel the ex- Shamrock Rovers frontman is worth a six figure sum.

Manager Paul Cook has said if Ferreira offer enough money Amond will go. "I think they have offered €30,000 for him, which with the best will in the world is not going to change the club.

"We’re going to lose a striker who has scored a lot of goals-and we only get €30,000? Of course we don’t want to sell him. We are not trying to tout him around," Cook has said. Rovers Assistant Manager Gerry Carr confirmed that the Showgrounds outfit were aware that Amond was attracting attention from Portugal and elsewhere.

"An offer has been made and there is talk of them (Pacos Ferreria)coming back with a renewed bid, whether or not that is sufficient is out of our hands and the club will ultimately decide at Committee and Board level. But, every player has their valuation and it’s just a case of waiting to see what happens," Carr said.
