Sligo Rovers manager Paul Cook is closing in on a deal to bring former Irish under-18 international centreback, Derek Foran, to the Showgrounds.

Foran, who played for Bray Wanderers lastseason, is one of a number of possible new signingsin Cook's sights.

Foran began his career at St. Patrick's Athleticand after initially joining Bray on loan he went onto complete a permanent move and had twooutstanding seasons for the Seasiders.

He attracted interest from a number of leadingclubs and was recently reported to be a target forShelbourne.

Meanwhile, having acknowledged last week thathe didn't know if midfielder Chris Turner would bea Rovers player at the start of the new campaign,Cook has now revealed that the matter is now withthe club's legal representatives."At this stage I can make no further comment onthe matter," he said.

Turner began pre-season training with Rovershaving signed a contract in November, but hasattracted interest from at least one other club, withShamrock Rovers a possible destination. He recently held discussions regarding hiscontract and registration in Sligo.

With the first pre-season friendly against BrayWanderers at the Carlisle Grounds on Saturday,Rovers have been linked with a number of players, including Seamus Conneely of Galway United, GerRowe formerly with Bray and Paul Whelan ofMonaghan United.

"We are short in certain areas, but we can'tspend money simply for the sake of it. We have totry to bring in a certain quality player. We havebeen linked with many players. Some of these linksare true, others are off the mark," said Cook.

Elsewhere, Benin international Romauld Boco, istraining with championship side Doncaster Roversand is hoping to be offered a contract.Boco returned from the African Cup of Nations tojoin the South Yorkshire outfit.

"He's is a good player but at this stage we don'tknow how things will progress. You can never saynever, but if he gets an offer from Doncaster thenobviously he will not be here," said Cook.

The Rovers manager, meanwhile, describedSunday's fans forum in the Clarion Hotel as "a verypositive meeting."

"The club is out there in the community andpeople are running a professional outfit in avoluntary capacity. They all have other jobs andinterests in their lives. We are all trying to do ourbest at the end of the day. We all make mistakes, butworking together we can make things better," Cookadded.
