Fiddler's Creek now at top of the table
THE STANDOUT game in the weeks fixtures in the Sligo Rovers 11-A-side Astro Turf League came on Wednesday with the clash of the top two in Division One as leaders Riverstown took on second place Fiddler';s Creek.
Fiddler's were a point behind Riverstown with a game in hand. From the start Fiddler's were on top and they capitalised on this when Glen Shannon scored ten minutes into the first half. Right on the stroke of half-time they doubled their lead with Mark Rooney the scorer. That goal proved crucial as Fiddler's kept Riverstown at bay to claim top spot in the process. Gannon & Mcnamara remain on the fringes of the title race as they lie fourth after their 2-0 win against the G.S.S. Darren Kelly and Mark Butler were their scorers. The P.S.O. made it back to back wins as they ran out 2-1 winners against Abbott Ireland. Gary Fallon scored from the penalty spot and Stuart Farren got their second.
Hargadon's (Calry) missed out on the chance to close the gap on leaders Killanaskully Wanderers as they were beaten 3-2 by SRFC Reserves. That win reignites the Reserves title hopes. Brendan Lowry and John Farrell were the scorers for Hargadon's with Neal Hayes getting two for the Reserves and Mark Mcgillen got the other. Hayes and Lowry have now both each hit double figures for the season as Lowry has notched eleven goal and Hayes ten making them the top two scorers in the League as a whole. Lang's Bar's recent revival in form continued as they were 3-0 winners against IT Sligo. Damien Kelly scored their first with Shane Feeney then bagging two as Lang's recorded their third win of the season.
