Dillon goal enough to see off Athlone in last round
Friday August 27 2010
A John Dillon goal was enough to earn Sligo Rovers victory over Athlone Town in their F.A.I. Ford Cup Third Round tie against the First Division side at the Showgrounds in June.
Dillon scored forty-five seconds after half-time to settle the issue as Rovers extended their unbeaten home sequence to five matches at the time.
The winner arrived when Joseph Ndo found Dean Marshall wide on the right after the Midlanders had lost possession. Marshall, now departed the Showgrounds, pushed the ball across the area to Padraig Amond who in turn switched it to Dillon to fire it home.
The Rovers team on duty was: Brush, Whelan, Foran, Peers, Davoren, Dillon, Ryan, Russell, McCabe, Ndo, Amond. Subs- Marshall for McCabe (41 mins), O’Grady for Marshall (86 mins).
