On the ball for club fundraiser
A MOUNTED rugby ball signed by the team members of the 1982 Ireland rugby team which won the Championship and Triple Crown that year after a gap of 34 years is one of many interesting items which willcome under the hammer at Sligo Rugby Club's fund raising auction at the Glasshouse Hotel on Sunday, February 19th.
The team was captained by Galway man Ciaran Fitzgerald who also captained the team in 1983 when they won the 5 Nations Championship and in 1985 won again the triple crown and Championship.
Ciaran was also captain of the British & Irish Lions team tour to New Zealand in1983. The ball has been kindly donated by the Healy family. There will be over 200 lots on offer including sports memorabilia, signed GAA, Rugby & Soccer Jerseys, Paintings including by Annie West & Judy Hamilton, Weekend & Restaurant vouchers, furniture items etc.
