County Sligo swimmers took to the roadagain in their quest for Northern Leagueglory, when they took on East CavanSwimming Club at the Lakeland Forum,Enniskillen

The Gala got underway with theFreestyle squads, where Sligo’s heroescleared the boards, taking first in all fiveevents.

The Girls of the Sligo 1996 squad, in theirfinal year of this competition, are thebackbone of team. The squad consistsofEllen McCole from Strandhill, who tookfirst place in both Backstroke andBreaststroke, Emma McTernan who wassecond in Butterfly and came home third inFrontcrawl, Sinead Lynch who recordedthird place in Breaststroke, she was fourthin the Frontcrawl, and Marina Leahy whowas on top form in her events, scoringthird place in Butterfly and fourth inBackstroke.

The 1996 Boys Brigade were in fantasticform with Glen O’Connor, a young manwith immense potential, taking first placein both Butterfly and Backstroke. He wasjoined by Liam Fitzgerald who came secondin Butterfly, with a great performance.Liam thundered home to get first place forSligo in Freestyle. This young man went onto record a memorable swim in the MedleySquad, entering the water in second placein the Freestyle leg, he ‘turned the tables’on the opposition to finish first for Sligo,This was definitely the ’swim of the day’.

Highly talented Declan Martin’ stole theshow’ in the Breaststroke, winning sixseconds ahead of his nearest rival, he alsotook third place in the Backstroke.Darragh Corcoran was brilliant inBreaststroke arriving home in secondplace, he finished third in Frontcrawl.

Sligo’s 2000 and 1999 squads were wellserved by Ellen Smith, Mairead Kavanagh,Aoife Whiteside , Emer Osbourne, NaoiseScott Ryan, Deirbhile McCloskey, ClaraStafford, Megan Corcoran, NiamhFitzgerald, Eoin Anderson, Conor Melvin,Adam Higgins , Dualtagh Holmes, AdamScanlon, David Rattigan, James McColeand Thomas Maher.

The highly talented members of the 1998and 1997 squads were Roisin Shaw, MegHerrity, Kate Anderson, Maedbh Kenneally,Ciara Redmond, Cara Osbourne, CliodhnaHanley, Lisa Gerrity, Roisin Shaw, CianWhiteside, Jack McDonagh, Peter Watters,Luke Banks and Cormac Buckley, allplaying their part in Sligo’s great win onthe day.
