Sligo schools among medals

LEISURELAND, GALWAY was the venue for the Connacht Schools Championships and Coola Post Primary School, Sligo Grammar School, Summerhill College and Ursuline College had representatives from Co Sligo Swimming Club doing their best for their school.

In the first event, 100m Butterfly for boys, 15/16 age group, Liam Fitzerald from Summerhill College had a best time and Keith Mullen from Coola Post Primary qualified for the Irish Schools Championships (1SC) as did Ciaran Mccloskey from Summerhill College competing in the 17+ age group.

In the Girls 100m Butterfly Jade Murphy from Sligo Grammar School put in a fine performance in the age 14 & Under age group while Emma Mcternan from Ursuline College had a huge time drop in the 15/16 age group.

In the Boys 100m Backstroke, best friends Adam Scanlon from Summerhill College and Cian Whiteside from the Grammar School both had best times in the 14&Under age group. In the 15/16 age group Daragh Mccloskey from Summerhill College and Evan Kelly and Keith Mullen from Coola Post Primary all had ISC times.

Representing Ursuline College in the Girls 100m Backstroke were Shona Keaveney and Emma Mcternan in the 15/16 age group and Laura Keaveney in the 17+ age group. Shona qualified for the ISC and Emma had a best time as did Laura who also qualified for ISC.

In the Boys 100m Breaststroke, Ronan Anderson, Jack Mcdonagh and Peter Watters all represented Summerhill College in the 14 & Under age group. Ronan had a best time and qualified for ISC and Jack also had a best time. In the 15/16 age group, Declan Martin representing Coola Post Primary had a huge time drop while in the 17+ age group Peter Mooney from Sligo Grammar School came well within the ISC qualifying time.

The Girls 100m Breaststroke 14 & Under age group saw Jade Murphy, Grammar School, achieve a best time and qualification for ISC. Ursuline College was also well represented in this age group by Aisling Jones and in the 15/16 age group by Sinéad Lynch and by Lisa Gerrity who qualified for ISC and also had a best time.

In the Boys 100m Freestyle, Summerhill College was well represented by Jack Mcdonagh achieving another best time, Liam Fitzgerald, Daire Mccloskey and Adam Scanlon. Peter Mooney, Grammar School, again qualified for ISC.

The Girls 100m Freestyle saw Ursuline College very well represented by Kate Anderson qualifying for ISC, and Aisling Jones who had a best time. Lisa Gerrity, Sinead Lynch and Laura Keaveney also took part in this event with Laura achieving a best time.

The Boys 200m Individual Medley had Ronan Anderson, Summerhill and Cian Whiteside, Grammar School, in the 14&Under age group with Ronan getting his second ISC time. In the 15/16 age group Evan Kelly and Declan Martin, Coola Post Primary, each had best times. In the 17+ age group Ciaran Mccloskey had his second ISC time. The Girls 200m IM had Kate Anderson, Deirbhile Mccloskey and Shona Keaveney all representing Ursuline College and all getting ISC times with best time for Deirbhile and Kate.
