Sligo athletes among the honours at Regional Schools Championships

Sligo athletes captured anumber of the major races atthe North Connacht Schoolscross-country championshipsat Sligo Race Course onWednesday last.
Anna Reddinof Sligo Grammar struck goldin the senior girls race whileSligo registered a notabledouble in the minor races withSarah McGeough, SligoGrammar, winning the girlsrace and Cian McBride,Summerhill College, racing toglory in the boys race.
The junior girls race waswon in great style by UrsulineCollege student, SorchaFallon.A number of Sligo teamsand individual athletes alsoqualified for the Connachtfinals which will be held in St.Mary’s, Galway, on Thursday,February 11th.
The minor girls race waswon by Sarah McGeough,Sligo Grammar School, whileSligo team qualifiers in thiscategory were Sligo Grammar(Sarah McGeough, SarahWood Martin, HannahLyndsey, Susan Nairn);Ursuline Sligo (ChantelleDevaney, Ellen McCole, ItaConnell); Mercy Sligo(Shannon Bushell, BrionaGallagher, Laura McNiff,Alexandra Kaleweski).
Cian McBride, SummerhillCollege, won the minor boysrace while Sligo teamqualifiers in this categorywere Sligo Grammar (WilliamCrowe, Dylan Carty, OisinHarney, Cathal Connolly andJack Tillion). Sligo individualqualifiers were Cian McBride,Summerhill, Bree Galvin,Summerhill, Daire Byrne,Grange PPS, and Sam White,Grange PPS.
The junior girls race waswon by Sorcha Fallon,Ursuline, Sligo, while Sligoteam qualifiers were Ursuline(Kate McGovern, CliodhnaMcGowan, Claire Stenson,Orla Mulvihill, ElanMcCarthy, Sorcha Fallon),Mercy (Ciara Connolly, LisaMartyn, Ania Bechorz).Individual qualifiers wereRosie Hynes, St. Attracta’s andClaire Conlon, Coola.
Sligo Grammar School wereteam qualifiers in the JuniorBoys race. Members of theteam were Peter Brittain,Aishan Patil, JonathanHiggins, Sean ogMacDomhnaill, RyanMcDermott, Sarvesh Kutty,Nathaniel Clark, Jack Kwong.Sligo Individual qualifers wereCian Mulrooney, Enniscrone,Doyan Kilcullen, Summerhilland Mark McCallion,Summerhill.
Summerhill College wereteam qualifiers in theintermediate boys race.Members of the team wereDavid Verdan, Robert Galvin,David Heffernan and ShaneKilcawley. Individualqualifiers from Sligo in thissection were James Geough,Sligo Grammar, and EoinMcGovern, Sligo Grammar.The senior girls race waswon by Anna Reddin of SligoGrammar. The GrammarSchool team of Anna Reddin,Rachel Kilgallon, LouiseCraig, Sharon Hodgins, ElsaKelly and Georgia Tillion alsoqualified in this race.
Individual qualifiers fromSligo were Rachel Flannery, St.Attracta’s, and VeronikaO’Brien, Sligo GrammarIn the Senior Boys race, theSligo Grammar team ofTommy Casey, Jack Roberts,David Heath and NathanCafolla qualified for theConnacht finals. FeidhlimMcGowan and Cathal O’Haraof Summerhill wereindividual qualifiers.
