Golden weekend for Sligo swimmers at the Community Games finals

There was great success for Sligo at the National Community Games Finals in Athlone, with two local swimmers taking gold, and silver, bronze and 4th place medals also going to Sligo competitors in a number of team and individual events.
The weekend got off to the best possible start with Sligo winning the Parade Trophy for the best turned out county at the Opening Concert. The gold medals came for Ronan Anderson, Rosses Point, who won the under-14 breakstroke and Joseph Mooney of Drumcliffe, who won the under-14 backstroke.
Silver medals went to Katie Anderson (Rosses Point) in the under- 12 freestyle, while Riverstown took silver in the under-12 girls skittles and Riverstown boys took silver in the under-14 Olympic Handball event. Edel Burke of Cornageeha won a bronze medal in under-14 cycling and the Ballymote girls under-15 soccer team also took bronze in their competition
4th Place went to the following: Shona Keaveney - St.Michael’s - Swimming U.16 Backstroke Davoren Fallon - Carly - U.12 Cycling Peter Mooney - Drumcliffe - Swimming U.16 Backstroke Ciaran McCloskey - Drumcliffe - Swimming U.16 Butterfly Adam Higgins - Cornageeha - Swimming U.10 Backstroke U.16 Girls Pitch & Putt - Rosses Point.
The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tony McLoughlin was on hand on Monday to congratulate the winners and pay tribute to all those who had taken part in the first weekend of finals.
