Zac strikes Gold for Sligo
Zac Irwin of Coolera continued Sligo’s ‘gold’ run at the national finals of Community Games in Athlone last week-end.On yet another highly successful week-end for the county at the national finals, young Zac stole the limelight with a blistering performance to take gold in the under 14 100m race.
Innisfree Wheelers Cycling Club
Members from the club have been kept very busy over the last number of weekends between club activities locally and attendance at various sportive events. Last Saturday week August 14th John Delorey,John O Connell,Brendan Brogan and John Greene attended the Sheaffrey Challenge in Westport.
Handball: Sligo brothers in novel pairing
Sligo players were out of luck in the All-Ireland singles semi-finals played on Saturday last. St. Mary's Paddy Walsh met his old foe again in Dublin's Mick O'Brien in Collooney. Unfortunately for Walsh he met an inform O'Brien and his comeback just fell short much to the disappointment of the Sligo faithful in attendance.
Handball: McCann and Walsh hope to reach finals
Two of Sligo's most accomplished players go into All-Ireland semi-final action next weekend. St. Mary's Paddy Walsh takes on old foe in Dublin's Mick O'Brien. O'Brien defeated Walsh in last year's fixture but Walsh had compensation when taking the doubles with Padraig Maye.
Golden weekend for Sligo swimmers at the Community Games finals
There was great success for Sligo at the National Community Games Finals in Athlone, with two local swimmers taking gold, and silver, bronze and 4th place medals also going to Sligo competitors in a number of team and individual events.
Warriors get ready to run
Preparations are entering the final phase for the 26th annual Warriors Run which has attracted a maximum field of 800 competitors to Strandhill on Saturday, August 28th next. According to the organisers interest in the 2010 event has been "phenomenal" for what is generally regarded as one of the country’s toughest tests of athletic endurance.

Sunday last saw the inaugural Warrior of the Sea swim from Rosses Point to Strandhill run in perfect swimming conditions.
Swimming: Impressive performances by Sligo at Irish Senior Youth Open Championships
County Sligo swimmers, Eavan McLoughlin, Darragh Taheny and Robert Smith competed with the finest talents on the Island of Ireland, and many of England’s best, in the Irish Senior Youth Open Championships, held at the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin. These three, conscious of the massive successes enjoyed by their younger colleague from County Sligo Swimming Club earlier in the month, were themselves eager to get into action in this, the most prestigious event on the Swimming Calendar.
Impressive Walton wins Sligo sprint Triathlon
Sligo’s Neil Walton produced an impressive individual performance to win the 2010 Sprint Triathlon at Rosses Point on Saturday. Despite some inclement weather conditions, a large crowd turned out at the traditional home of the sport in Ireland to see Walton finish the 750 meter swim, 20k cycle and 5k run ahead of Galway’s Marc O’Duffy, one of the prerace favourites.
Sligo team make it to Dublin Horse Show
The Benbulben Riding Club Show Jumping Team is competing in the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show. They are competing in the AIRC Team Show Jumping Competition on Sunday. They will compete against 8 other teams from around the country and are very proud to be representing both Sligo and the Western Region of the Association of Riding Clubs (AIRC).
