Hurlers bid for semi-final spot
Sligo hurlers will be hoping to book their place in the semi-final of the Nicky Rackard Cup when they face Louth in Pearse Park, Longford on Saturday (Throw in 3.30pm).
Following an unexpected defeat to London in Ruislip, the Yeats county came through a 'must win' play-off game against Monaghan at Markievicz Park at the weekend to book their place in the last eight.
Sligo struggled somewhat in the first-half, failing to convert their chances and with Michael McHugh hitting six of seven points from frees, the visitors hit the front. Monaghan were leading 07-03 at the interval, but in a scenario where early scores would be vital, Sligo hit back through a Colin Herity free and a Robert Molloy point from play.
Three goals put the seal on a deserved victory in the end for the home side and as they prepare to face Louth they will again hope that players such as Nial Cadden, Mark Burke, Ronan Cox and goalscorers Herity, Cian Hackett and Damian Burke can reach their best form.
A Sligo win will set up a semi-final meeting with Armagh, with Roscommon awaiting the winners of the quarter-final between London and Fingal in the other semi.
