Golf classic raises €7,000 for Rovers
The Sligo Rovers annual golf classic atCo. Sligo Golf Club on Thursday last seta record for the number of teams takingpart. Beautiful weather helped to attracta total of fifty-three teams to themagnificent course in a stablefordformat competition which proved verypopular with golfers, many of whomtravelled from all over the country
The winning team comprised fourlocal golfers, Jimmy Henry, GerardRoache, Michael Hennigan and EoinGallagher, who just edged out anotherlocal team from Tubbercurry golf clubcomprising Charlie Scanlon, EamonnGallagher, Pat Ridge and Joe KilcoyneSpeaking at the presentation, MrVincent Nally, organiser of the Classicwith an organising committee, said theywere delighted to be involved with the8th annual Classic which raised €7,000this year and a total of €148,000 over theeight
Classics heldMr Pat Forkan, Captain, Co. Sligo GolfClub, thanked the teams for their cooperationduring the course of playwhich led to a most enjoyable days golffor all the participants. He wished SligoRovers manager, Paul Cook, and theteam every success in the future.
Miss Mary McGowan, Sligo RoversSecretary, echoed the sentiments of theprevious speakers and thanked theorganisers, expressing the committee’sdeep appreciation for trhe money raisedwhich would be a great help to the club.Rovers manager, Paul Cook, spoke ofhis team’s progress and theirexpectations for the remainder of theseason.
All speakers spoke of the recentsuccess of the Sligo GAA team andwished them well for the forthcominggames.
