Sunday July 4th: SinglesStableford. 1st: Ruairi O'Connor(5) – 28 pts B9 2nd: MichaelHannigan (16) - 28 ptsCaptain's Prize (Mr PatForkan) Saturday 3rd July:184 competitors took to thefairways on Saturday in pursuitof the seasons most covetedprize.

Conditions were difficultwith the strong wind makingthe back nine particularlyhazardous. Indeed only sixplayers managed to beat themagical 70 with manycontenders coming to grief onthe closing holes. The eventualwinner, Stephen Crowley, playing off 9, managed to keephis composure as others fellaway, even though he admittedto feeling the pressure on thelast few holes on his way to anexcellent winning score of 67.

His better back nine just pippedeighteen handicapper MichaelHannigan for the title. MichaelBarrett will be delighted withhis 68 which was good enoughfor third place. Tom Fordbattled hard to take the Grossprize with a very credible 76 inthe conditions.

Many tributes were paid to avery popular Captain, Pat, at thepresentation in the clubhousewith the President, Joe Gannon, leading the way. The Captain’scommitment, dedication andselfless work for the club washighlighted and his years ofservice on committee weretestimony to this. Tributes werealso paid to his wife, Marie, andfamily. It was lovely to see Pat'sbrothers Brendan and Johnpresent, with their wives Maryand Margaret. Brendan isCaptain of Ballybofey &Stranorlar GC and Johntravelled all the way fromToronto for the occasion.

Indeed the only downside tothe day for Galway born Pat wasthe small matter of a Connachtsemi final defeat in MarkieviczPark for his native county by hisadopted Yeat's county!Pat spoke eloquently of thehonour of being Captain ofsuch a great club and hethanked the many people whohad contributed to his great day.

He also wishes through thiscolumn to thank all themembers for their best wishesand good luck messages for hisCaptain’s Day.
