DIAGEO WINTER LEAGUE:
Round 5 was played on Sunday last in beautiful sunshine with a freshening wind. Bonus points were hard come by but not for Joe Keyes and Nicky Harte who took the honours on the Championship Course with an outstanding 5 up. Pat Lyons and Tom Feely won the Bomore prize finishing 1 up. Jude Devins had the shot of the day on the par 3 fourth in Bomore when his tee shot found the cup. POSITIONS AFTER 7 ROUNDS:
Section 1: (played 7). The top two in this section were defeated on Sunday last and with third placed Fitzpatrick/Gaynor not playing it gave the chasing pack a chance to get into contention with just one round left. Cullen/McDonagh have booked their place in the final but it's all to play for after that. This section has played one round more than the others..
Cullen & McDonagh 20 pts. Leonard & Barry 15 pts. Fitzpatrick & Gaynor 14 pts. Casey & Tracey 14 pts. Keyes & Harte 13 pts. Reynolds & Edwards 13 pts. McLoughlin & McNamara 10 pts. Cunningham & Mullen 4 pts. McGrath & Donaghy 0 pts. Section 2: The new leaders here are brothers Gary and Jude Devins on 15 pts, but they have only one match left. The next five pairings have two rounds to play, things should be clearer after next weeks results. Devins & Devins 15 pts. Nugent & Cox 14 pts. McAleenan & Higgins 14 pts. Rooney & Armstrong 13 pts. Ward & Maguire 12 pts. Burgess & O'Hara 11 pts. Byrne & Murphy 7 pts. Owens & Hampson 3 pts. Walsh & Kane 0 pts.
Section 3: McDermott/Henry are safely through here with one match to play. Gleeson/Cannon made a decisive move this week moving up to second just ahead of 'draw experts' McManus/Dunne. Feeney/Feeney are in fourth on 11 pts but the next three teams are still in with a chance of making it through. McDermott & Henry 23 pts. Gleeson & Cannon 13 pts. McManus & Dunne 12 pts. Feeney & Feeney 11 pts. Heavey & Cafferky 9 pts. Armstrong & Gallagher 8 pts. Butler & Butler 7 pts. Parkinson & Gannon 3 pts. Molony & McAllister 3 pts. Section 4: Forkan/Whelan were the big movers in this section as Gilroy/Power and Moylan/Gilmartin both slipped up. Kelly/Nicholson are finding good form at the right time and move up to fourth. Armstrong/Devaney and the O'Sullivans are both on 10 pts with two matches left. Forkan & Whelan 17 pts. Gilroy & Power 14 pts. Moylan & Gilmartin 12 pts. Kelly & Nicholson 12 pts. Armstrong & Devaney 10 pts. O'Sullivan & O'Sullivan 10 pts. Flynn & Hampson 9 pts. Henry & O'Hara 3 pts. McManus & Dolan 3 pts.
Section 5: This section was described as the 'group of death' last week and the latest results have done nothing to change that. All teams can still make the final but the bottom three must win next weekend. Sproule & Sproule 13 pts. Dunne & McMorrow 13 pts. Doyle & McHugh 13 pts. McDonald & Collins 12 pts. Barnicle & Carr 10 pts. Feely & Lyons 8 pts. McDaniel & Doyle 7 pts. Gillen & Cunningham 7 pts. Johnston & Murray 7 pts.
Section 6: O'Connor/White look comfortable here on 17 points. Taylor/Frazer are showing good form and lie in second place but still need another win. After that it's any two from five but Fitzsimons/Sweeney have only one match left. O'Connor & White 17 pts. Taylor & Frazer 13 pts. O'Hara & O'Hara 11 pts. Wehrly & McDermott 11 pts. Fitzsimons & Sweeney 10 pts. O'Flaherty & McGuinness 9 pts. Morgan & Creed 8 pts. McKenna & Mulligan 3 pts. Johnson & McTernan 0 pts.
The League continues on Sunday March 14th when the rescheduled Round 7 will be played. Match times are on the notice board and the website. Please note that Section 1 matches are already completed in this round.
