Castle Dargan Golf Club: Busy weekend in perfect conditions

Wednesday March 10 2010

Spring League. Last weekend saw large numbers of members and visitors playing Castle Dargan and enjoying the near perfect golfing weather.

The Spring League continued with excellent scores recorded on both days with Saturday producing the better scores. Kevin Conlon (13) played his first round of the competition on Saturday and recorded the best score in the competition to date with an excellent 43 points. Obviously Kevin’s recent trip to the states where he attended one days play at the Honda classic and his subsequent visit to the world famous Agusta National was his inspiration to this remarkable score. Paul McGonnigle carded 41 points on Saturday to take the overall lead in the competition with only one weekends play left. However the result is far from settled as there are only 3 points separating the top four. The top five are as follows, Paul McGonnigle 111, Terry Duffy and Tony Groves are tied in second with 110 points, Eugene Carroll is forth with 108 and Wilfred Bourke is fifth with 102 points. Kevin Conlon is in a strong position with 73 points with only two cards submitted. As stated Saturday and Sunday are the final days play in the competition and we look forward to seeing as many members as possible trying to give their scores a last minute boost. Remember the presentation will take place on St Patrick’s Day after the Captains Drive in.

Captains Drive In. The Captains drive in is scheduled for 4pm on St Patrick’s Day. There will be an 8 hole stableford competition prior to the drive in to facilitate those who wish to go to the parade before hand. There will be some finger food served in what is always a great start to the new golfing season. We wish Wilfred Bourke and Paula Daly the very best of luck for 2010 and hope they have a very enjoyable day. Competitions. The competitions booklet is almost ready to go to print and should be available to members by the end of March.
