Maye leads the way on special day
A good start to the secondhalf edged Sligo to victory over Kerry in Saturday’s All-Ireland Junior Championship Final, leading scorer David Maye maintained.
Maye, who hit eight points in the semi-final against Louth, repeated the tally at Pease Stadium, kicking six excellent frees in difficult conditions. The Curry man was understandably delighted at the finish.
"It’s great to get a win against Kerry. When you’re kicking good, you’re kicking good and to get the first one is always a good start," Maye commented.
"The pitch was very good and we played well in the conditions. We worked hard in the secondhalf. We started well in the second-half and that gave us a platform to build on," he said.
The Sligo corner forward described the decision of Kevin Walsh to remain on as manager for a further two years as "great."
"This is my first year in the senior panel. I’m only young and he’s been a great help to me this year. I’m glad he is there for another two years and maybe longer," Maye added.
