BALLYMOTE: The senior team travelled to St Johns on Saturday and with the homeside very much under strength Ballymote ran out winners on ascoreline of 2-14 to 1-5 the goals being scored by Peter Lyons andMark Irwin.

Indoor hurling for 8-12 year olds continues on Thursday @ 7PMTubbercurry were visitors to Corballa on Saturday evening for thesecond round of the Kiernan cup. Both teams were missing anumber of players with Sigerson cup taking away two of the teamsstar forwards, Niall Judge and David Kelly. A first half of endeavourfrom both teams so the away side lead by one point. The second halftook place in a multitude of weather with hail showers, rain, thunderand lighting throughout the half but the teams stuck to their tasksand Tubbercurry came out the victors on a one point victory, 1-9 v 0-11. Our next outing in the Kiernan cup is away to Shamrock Gaels onthe weekend of March 13/14. Training continues on Tues night at 8.
Congrats to the Drama Group on their wonderful production of‘Troubled bachelors’ at the weekend. Also well done to John Cooney,son of Ligori Barrins who was scrum-half for the third time thisseason for the Irish U20 team who defeated England on Friday night.Last season both John and his brother Frances did some of their preseasonrugby training with the club.

Owenmore Gaels G.A.A. Fotball Club had a very successfulfundraiser in the Castle Dargan on Friday night. The Castle Darganwas packed to capacity and was hosted brilliantly by RTE's MartyMorrissey. Justn Gilmartin and Bernard O Grady as Kenny Rogersand Dolly Partin were crowned overall winners of the talent show.

Its all go on the underage coaching in the club at the moment andonce again thanks to our dedicated bunch of coaches. All our coacheshave now completed the Garda vetting forms and a code of ethicscourse will take place in the coming weeks for all club coaches to befully up to date with the clubs code of ethics policy.
The indoor hurling coaching continues on Monday evenings, Theu8’s and u10 footballers are also indoor on Wednesday evenings theu12 footballers on Saturday on the Astro turf in Aclare, u 14Footballers on Wednesdays also on the Astro Turf, the u16s returnthis week on Wednesday nights. While the underage girls coachingtakes place in Banada Abbey Hall on Thursday evenings.

The Club Dinner Dance was held last Saturday night in CastleDargan and the event proved to be a very successful one, with a verygood turnout enjoying the great food and entertainment provided onthe night. The guest of honour was the current Sligo manager KevinWalsh, and his wife Anne, and many thanks to both of them forattending and a special word of thanks to Kevin for his words ofencouragement and support to all the club members and playerspresent on the night. Many thanks also to Sligo Ladies TreasurerMartin Seery who attended and presented medals to the LadiesCounty champions who narrowly lost out on the Connacht title lastOctober. Congratulations were noted to all the successful St.Michaelsteams from under-age to minor who had very successful seasons andto the Intermediate side who narrowly missed out on promotion.Special thanks was also given to all who helped with themanagement of teams and to those who helped in any respect duringthe year. Like most clubs, the organisation and support efforts ofmany individuals may not always be recognised or appreciated so abig thanks from the committee goes to all of those that helped duringthe year.
Player of the year honours went to Padraig McGoldrick andcongratulations also go to Padraig and Paul McTiernan who madethis year’s Sligo county senior panel. The young player of the yearhonours went to Colm McTiernan and the Club person of the yearaward went to John McAndrew who once again was commended forall of his work during the year. A special award was also given to JoeTaaffe in honour of his appointment as Treasurer to the ConnachtCouncil.
St. Michael's ladies received their Intermediate County medals andtheir Senior County and Connacht runner up medals at the dinnerdance on Saturday night from Martin Seery. Nikki Haraan-Brehony,the inspirational captain of the team received player of the year,while the talented Sarah Feeney received the most improved playeraward. The club person of the year award went to Marie Clancy, whohas shown dedication, encouragement and committment to all agegroups witin the club. Minor and underage medals will be presentedin the near future. Marie, Jack and Breege were thanked for all theirhard work.
The open meeting of the ladies club is on Friday march 5th at 9pm.in the Enterprise units, Ballintogher. All people who have aconnection or interest in the club are invited. This is an importantmeeting, please take the time to attend.

Our Senior team had their first outing of the year in the Pick andChoose Cup away to Geevagh on Saturday last. On a day whenRobert Reid, Fiachra Gorman and David Shepard performed verywell on their Senior debuts we won on a scoreline of 0-12 to 2-04 inwhat was a very completive game. Next up for this team is a homematch against Bunninadden in Keash on Saturday 06 March at5pmOur Intermediate team came up against a very strong St.Marys first team in the Kiernan Cup on Sunday last and lost on ascoreline of 1-14 to 0-06. The next match for this team is at hometo Drumcliffe/Rosses Point on March 13/14.Our Minor team travel to Kent Park to take on St. Marys at11am, Sunday morning.
Scor Sinsear is been hosted by Eastern Harps this year and willbe held in St. Patricks Hall, Gurteen on Saturday next March 6 at7pm. The club hopes to be represented in 5 sections on the nightand all local support would be greatly appreciated.As part of our underage initiative, Keith Beirne, MichaelMcDermott & Ross Donovan attended mass in Killaraght onSunday last. They highlighted the importance of underagetraining for the boys/girls of the area and had a “kick around”after mass with some of the up and coming county players in theKillaraght parish. Thanks to former Sligo Minor Ladies ManagerJimmy Casey & Councillor Gerry Murray for their attendanceand also to Fr Ronan Murtagh for facilitating this initiative. Also,many thanks to former Eastern Harps player Pat Meehan whovolunteered part of his land to facilitate underage training inKillaraght as part of this initiative.
There will be a General clean up of the Dressing Rooms andSurroundings on this Saturday at 11am. All help would be greatlyappreciated.It was great to see 22 people completing the Foundation LevelCoaching Course that was held by the club last week. Well done to Paul Taylor who was honoured with a Sligo SportsStar Award on Friday night last. Paul received his award forfinishing as Top Scorer in last years Championship and is thesecond year in a row that he has claimed this award.A very successful Special Olympics Fundraiser organised byKieran and Sinead McGill was held on Friday night last inDrurys, Monasteraden. A number of athletes from the Harps areawill be representing Ireland at this year’s Games.

We wish to congratulate David Kelly who won a Sigerson CupMedal with D.C.U on Saturday last. D.C.U beat N.U.I Maynooth onFriday in the semi final. David had an outstanding game scoring 1-3 -the goal was a brilliant score. He was somewhat quiter in the finalscoring 0-1 point but contributed excellently to a fine teamperformance.
The previous week David picked up an O’Byrne Medal when D.C.Utriumphed over Louth.An outstanding week for David, we salute him and hope thissuccess will continue for him in the Tubbercurry / Sligo Jersey overthe coming months.

Our senior team were beaten 2-12 to 2-06 by Drumcliffe/Rosses Pointin Oxfield in the Kiernan Cup Group B fixture on Saturday last.Although Joe Keaney’s side were missing a significant number ofplayers there were very encouraging displays from a number ofplayers on Saturday including Jason Brennan and Colm Feeney indefence and Glen McHugh in attack.
On Sunday last our junior team put up a good performance beforegoing down 1-11 to 0-07 against Coolera/Strandhill in the Abbott Cup.Our minor boys have a busy weekend with a rearranged leaguefixture when they travel to Banada to play Tourlestrane on thisFriday March 5th with a 7.00pm throw in and they also entertainOwenmore Gaels at Monsignor Hynes park on Sunday morning nextMarch 7th at 11.00am.

We badly need a number of new volunteers to help out within ourclub. Club Treasurer Leo Logan is looking for volunteers to collectadmission fees at Senior League games. Ronnie Brennan and histeam who look after pitch lining and maintenance are looking forpeople to help out with the upkeep of the club grounds. We also needsomeone to take on the role of dressing roomcaretaker/maintenance. Anyone interested in helping out with therunning of our club please feel free to contact Niall Murray, LeoLogan or Kevin Molloy or indeed any other member of the clubexecutive.
The First Draft of the 2010 Master Fixture Calendar will beavailable shortly on the Club's website. All underage coaches mustnow have the vetting form completed; this is also available from theCounty Board's website and must be returned immediately to anycommittee member.
The Club medal presentation night is on in the Glasshouse Hotelon this Friday 5th March 2010 at 8.30pm. There will be medalpresentations to a number of our under age teams (both boys andgirls), as well as to the successful U-20 team. Finger food and a discowill be provided after the medal presentation. It is important that allclub members young and old turn out to support these teams on thisnight.
St. Mary’s GAA club will be hosting a fundraising raffle on Fridaynight at our medal presentation night in the Glasshouse Hotel.Clodagh Murray will travel to Haiti in April to take part in Build ItWeek, run by Irish charity Haven Partnership. Between now andApril, Clodagh (sister of Chairman Niall Murray) is fundraising tobring in badly needed cash to help the rebuilding effort after thequakes which killed 230,000 people and left at least another millionhomeless. Prizes on the night will include two tickets to see Westlifein Croke Park this summer, a Wii Fit and many other prizes.
Pride of place this week goes to the Summerhill Senior side whoreached the Connacht Colleges Senior ‘A’ Final for the first time in 25years. They are due to play St. Gerard’s Castlebar in the Final in 2weeks time. It is important to give these young men all the supportnecessary to bring the title to Sligo. Well done to Shane Reynolds,Liam Óg Gormley and their team of helpers. We are proud of ourclub members who are part of the panel namely Conor Conway,Paddy Brady, Brian O’Donnell and especially Niall McManus whowas sprung from the bench to score 2 late goals to win the match.We are due to play Eastern Harps in the Minor League at home onSunday next at 11am.
