Captain Farrell delivers
Four days after the official announcement that Sligo’s managerial team would remain in place for another two years and the Yeats men bring home the first trophy of the "New era" Kevin Walsh and his Junior team have defeated Kerry to win the first All Ireland Junior Cup for Sligo since 1935.
‘Walsh decision a major boost’
The decision of manager Kevin Walsh to stay on as Sligo manager for another two years provided the junior squad with a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s All-Ireland Final said victorious captain, Jason Farrell, after their six point win over Kerry at Pearse Stadium.
‘A nice way to end a good year for Sligo football’
A very nice way to end a good year for Sligo football....that’s how manager Kevin Walsh summed up the county’s junior All-Ireland win over Kerry at Pearse Stadium on Saturday. "A lot of these players would have been training and involved all winter with the seniors and it’s great for them," said Walsh.
‘A TREMENDOUS DAY FOR SLIGO FOOTBALL’
Sligo County Board Chairman John Murphy described the All-Ireland Junior Championship Final victory over Kerry as "a tremendous day" for football in the Yeats County.
Sligo juniors claim historic All-Ireland title
Sligo-All Ireland champions! Only once before has such a glorious chapter been recorded in the history of the G.A.A. in the Yeats County. Kevin Walsh’s men changed all that on Saturday last in re-writing the record books with a fully merited six point win over Kerry in the Junior Football Championship Final at Pearse Stadium, Galway. 1935 was the last time Sligo won the title but a barren seventy-five year wait ended with a gritty display in difficult conditions as some excellent individual performances allied to a workmanlike team effort saw off the challenge from the Kingdom, who had three playres sent off before the finish.
Maye leads the way on special day
A good start to the secondhalf edged Sligo to victory over Kerry in Saturday’s All-Ireland Junior Championship Final, leading scorer David Maye maintained.
Sligo celebrate historic victory
Sligo’s great GAA famine is over. It may have only been a junior title on offer but that doesn’t in any way diminish the sense of joy in the county this week after Sligo’s thrilling win over mighty Kerry in the All-Ireland junior championship final at Pearse Stadium on Saturday last.
