Sligo celebrate historic victory

Sligo’s great GAA famine is over. It may have only been a junior title on offer but that doesn’t in any way diminish the sense of joy in the county this week after Sligo’s thrilling win over mighty Kerry in the All-Ireland junior championship final at Pearse Stadium on Saturday last.

Sligo/ Leitrim in Niall McInerney Shield Action

Sligo U-16 hurlers combined with Leitrim to compete in the Niall McInerney Memorial Shield at Liam Mellowes GAA grounds last Saturday. John Mullins and Brian McCann were joined by Leitrim mentors Donie Quinn and Steve Feeney as 15 of the Sligo U-16 hurling squad plus 6 Leitrim players combined to take on Roscommon and Mayo U-16 squads and the home club’s minor team in this annual tournament at Renmore, Galway.

Four days after the official announcement that Sligo’s managerial team would remain in place for another two years and the Yeats men bring home the first trophy of the "New era" Kevin Walsh and his Junior team have defeated Kerry to win the first All Ireland Junior Cup for Sligo since 1935.

Rugby: Dublin University visit Hamilton Park for centenary fixture

One of rugby’s oldest traditions is the playing of competitive friendly fixtures. The advent of the All Ireland League (AIL) has greatly reduced the number of such games in recent times, but they continue to play a key role in forging strong links and friendships between clubs.
