Town set to buzz with carnival atmosphere
With thirty local venues hosting more than seventy gigs and a massive street party in the city centre, Sligo is set to come alive this weekend with the Lissadell Fringe Festival running from tomorrow (Thursday) until next Tuesday .
Rebecca Stevens, CEO of Sligo Chamber of Commerce, predicted that the town will be buzzing when the festival gets underway.
"Sligo is throwing one big party over the weekend. The Lissadell Fringe Festival will ensure that festival goers, together with the local community will enjoy local hospitality, and experience Sligo at its best", she enthused.
The festival is funded by The Sligo Partnership, Sligo Borough Council, Fáilte Ireland, Sligo Leader Partnership and the participating venues.
"The party is for everyone, young and old. Everyone can experience the best that Sligo has to offer - the best music, the best food, the best shopping, the best atmosphere", Rebecca explained.
There will be a myriad of events to suit all preferences - a small intimate, relaxing gig in a café right up to a lively pub session. All venues have a late licence for the weekend, so Lissadell concert goers can return to the town for more gigs or a late night supper afterward.
An exciting family day street party is planned for O'Connell Street on Saturday, July 31st from 2pm until 5.30pm, where children will be given costumes to participate in the carnival parade.
"Sligo is ready for this world class event and we intend to enjoy it. Whether your preference is traditional, folk, rock, jazz, country blues, disco, we have it all. Pick up a brochure in any of the hotels, restaurants, pubs, clubs, cafes or the Tourist Information Office and you will be spoiled for choice", Rebecca advised.
The French market will also take place on Rockwood parade for an Parisian experience. The Fringe Festival is being produced by Ferguson Events, in conjunction with Marketing Forum Sligo. For more information log onto www.sligotourism.ie
