Oscar nominee to attend Sligo screening

On Tuesday 16th of March, Hollywood and Sligo will be closely linked together when Paul Young, a native of Boyle, Co Roscommon and producer of the Oscar nominated "The Secret of Kells" will be in town for a special screening of his film at the Gaiety Cinema, Sligo at 9.00pm.
This screening is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Sligo to come along and rub shoulders with one of the most talented film producers in the country. Once the film has concluded Paul and other esteemed guests will be on hand to answer questions and share their experiences of making this exceptional film.
Paul Young and his team from Cartoon Saloon based in Kilkenny have enjoyed massive success with the film. The Secret of Kells has received critical acclaim and received numerous awards at The Edinburgh International Film Festival, The Dublin International Film Festival, The European Film Awards and recently won the Best Animated Feature at the 7th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAS). The highlight was undoubtedly being nominated for the Best Animated Feature Film at the 82nd Annual Oscars.
Sligo Mayor Jim McGarry has awarded Paul a civic reception to commemorate his achievements in the City Hall at 7.00pm on the same night. There will be a host of special invited guests in attendance for this prestigious ceremony. Sligo Mayor Jim McGarry has had his fair share of award winners attend City Hall and most recently the Emmy award winning, Dearbhla Walsh from Tubbercurry.
The entire event is being organised by three IT Sligo Event Management students under the guidance of their lecturer Joanna Sweeney. The three students are in their final year and this event will play a major part on their final results. An event such as this will provide fantastic hands on experience and a chance for IT Sligo students to provide a positive impact on the community. The student names are Gillian Liston, Ciara Mc Donnell and Tomas Lynn.
