With the Morrison Teach Ceoil in Riverstown now nearing completion, details of a major fundraising drive to complete the work has been announced. The €500,000 project has been funded to date by Sligo County Council, Peace 2, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann Development Fund, Sligo Leader Company and a 'Buy a Brick' Scheme.

However, due to cutbacks in capital funding, the project has an outstanding debt of about €30,000.

Riverstown branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, the driving force behind the project, has had a very positive response in its efforts so far. Classes are being held four to five nights each week in the Teach Ceoil while community groups have used the it as a comfortable and ideal venue for meetings.

Forthcoming fundraising events include a raffle with a €2,500 prize fund. The draw will take place on Easter Sunday night.

A Race Night to be held on Tuesday 16th March at the Teacher's Club, Parnell Square, Dublin. The event is being supported by the Dublin /Sligo Association.

Fiddle classes for intermediate and advanced students will be given by Sligo maestros Seamas and Manus McGuire on Saturday April 10th 2010. Fee: €20.

Also on Saturday April 10th, there will be a 'not to be missed' concert at the Morrison Teach Ceoil featuring: Seamas McGuire and John Lee, Seamas and Manus McGuire and the Brock McGuire Band. Early booking for master classes and concert is advisable.

For further information contact, Riverstown CCE branch Chairperson Paraic Kerins (071) 9165283 / (087) 6707329; Secretary, Sean Lyons (087) 9165880; Treasurer, Ann Mulligan (087) 2477474; or Coordinator, Martin Enright (086) 0551027.

It was a dream come true for the members of Riverstown Branch of Comhaltas Cheoilteoiri Eireann when the sod turning for the cottage took place some years ago. The ceremony was performed by Senator Labhras O'Murchu, Ard Stiurthoir of CCE
