Information sought on INTO's Michael Doyle
2010 IS the centenary of the election of Michael Doyle as central secretary of the INTO. He was principal teacher of Ballymote N.S. from 1868 until 1913. The statue erected to his memory in front of Ballymote Court House was unveiled in 1930 two years after his death. A memorial service was held in Ballymote in 1968 to remember the part Michael Doyle played in the founding of the INTO in 1868. I am at present doing some research on his life and would be particularly grateful for any old photographs, articles or anecdotes to bring alive the memory of this great champion of Irish education, please contact Jim Higgins, Carrigans Lower, Ballymote, Email: jhiggins@into.ie.
