Go Hooley for the Hospice!

Wednesday March 10 2010

Aguaranteed night of excellent Irish traditional music and song is coming to the heart of Sligo town. Organised by four 3rd year Public Relations and Event Management students, Cora O'Brien, Lisa Hannon, Michelle Mc Kenzie and Jane Corcoran in IT Sligo, the one night showcase takes place in the idyllic setting of Calry Church on Friday 12th of March at 8.30pm. The concert will feature Tommy Byrne and his band 'The Big Jigs' and also the Irish Traditional Music society in IT Sligo. All proceeds from the event are going to the North West Hospice.

The outstanding acoustics of Calry Church will exhibit the level of talent that the show can offer. The Big Jigs are a Trad Band that formed in 1998. They have since toured every country in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Their fusion of Irish Traditional music and contemporary instruments provides an impressive array of the talents on offer.

The four students organising the event will be the first graduates of the newly introduced course, PR and event management, in the Institute of Technology Sligo. This first class course, first introduced in 2008, offers students hands on, practical experience in the up and coming field of PR and Event Management. The course offers real life cases where the students are becoming actively involved with clients through organising an event of their choice. A quote from one of the students sums up the course, 'I am really glad that I chose this course with IT Sligo. I am really interested in event management and this course offers great opportunities to put the theory into practice.'
