FF resignations expected
Up to a dozen resignations are expected in a local Fianna Fail Cumann following the defection of former Mayor, Mr. Tommy Cummins, who has confirmed that he is to contest the Borough Council election as an independent candidate.
According to Mr. Cummins, who has formally tendered his resignation after nearly 40 years in Fianna Fail, up to half of the membership of the Fraser Browne Cumann will also be leaving the party to work on his election campaign.
"The Cumann has a membership of about 26 people, and at least twelve of them will be resigning. These are people who would have been dyed-in-the-wool Fianna Fail workers, but who were disgusted at the way I was treated.
"The party made its decision on its candidates in the East Ward, and now we have made our decision. As far as I'm concerned, it's Fianna Fail's loss," Mr. Cummins told THE SLIGO CHAMPION.
