Sligo rail station in the top three in Connacht

Sligo Station narrowly missed out to Claremorris to take the title of Best Station in Connacht at this year's Best Station Award. Station Manager, Jim Doherty and Kevin McNiffe and Martin Langan travelled to Dublin to attend the ceremony.
The busy Sligo station held off strong competition from all over Connacht to get to into the top three and only just missed out on the top award. The award winners were announced at a ceremony in Iarnród Éireann's Inchicore Works on Thursday 25th February. Station Manager, Jim Doherty may have thought he was seeing double, as life size images of him adorned the room, as Jim fronted the marketing campaign for the awards.
Such a great performance in the Best Connacht Station category was all the more sweet, as the decision was made by rail customers through a text and web poll. Almost 2,000 people voted as part of the competition. Customers were asked to rate their station under the following criteria; Customer Information, Staff Appearance, Staff Helpfulness and Station Appearance. The votes were cast in a text and online poll during November last.
The Iarnród Éireann Best Station Awards reward excellence in customer facilities, cleanliness, innovation and customer service in the country's 140 railway stations. Iarnród Éireann Bosses said: "To win this award, Claremorris staff have demonstrated the very highest standards. Our awards are a celebration of the very best on our network, and the competition encourages station staff at every station to match these standards."
Jim and his team can be proud of the high ratings achieved across all categories, and the strong role played by the station in the local community.
