Geevagh native to appear at Manchester festival
LOCAL Geevagh native, Carmel Gunning has been invited to appear at the opening events of this year's Manchester Irish Festival. She will appear at the Union Inn in Levenshulme on this Saturday, March 6th. Carmel will be a special guest at a Tradfest night to the memory of the late great Liam Clancy who died just before Christmas. The show starts at 8.30pm and is free. Carmel is inviting all her friends and fans to come along on the night and of course there will be a special welcome for all Geevagh natives.
A WALKS Scheme has been introduced which will see farmers/private landowners/landholders receive payment for the development, maintenance and enhancement of approved Waymarked Ways that pass through their land. The scheme is now available on the Miners Way and Historical Trail. For information contact Sligo LEADER Partnership on 071 9141138.

THE CARRAN Walking Club has just released a NEW calendar of walks. They include a walk in Union Woods on Sunday March 7, around the Mining Experience in Arigna on Easter Monday, April 5 and on Sunday May 2 they go to Kilronan Woods for the renowned "Bluebell" walk beside Kilronan Castle. In June they have planned two walks with the first around Lough Talt on the first Sunday and the second walk to Carrowkeel to mark the Summer Solstice. More details on that later.
TIRERRILL Historical and Archaeological Society will hold its next presentation on March 8 at 8 pm in the National Parks and Wildlife (NPWS) centre in Ballinafad. Ms Stella Mew of the Yeats Society will give a talk on "The Yeats' and Pollexfens of Sligo". Admission is free and all are welcome.
