Sleeping out to raise funds for Simon
LOCAL MAN Carlo Cretaro is trying to organise a "sleep out night" to raise money for the Galway Simon homeless community.
This will be something similar to the project that was ran over in Carrick-on-Shannon a few weeks ago in which numerous people camped outside from 8pm to 8am. The Gardai and town council will be informed of the sleep out if it goes ahead, and the public toilet facility nearby will be available. Those taking part may wear whatever clothing they like bring along a sleeping bag and cardboard for use underneath if desired. It will take place on Friday 18th December around the town clock on the Crescent. The 18th of December is one of the longest nights in the calendar year, and for the homeless it's an even longer night! If anyone would be interested in doing this very worthy cause then I can be contacted at 0868633592 or carlocretaro@hotmail.com. FARMERS' MARKET: Boyle Farmers' Market continues this week with, as ever, the opportunity to buy fresh, locally grown or home made produce direct from the people who make or grew it. The market is held in the grounds of King House in Military Road, Boyle, every Saturday from 10am until 2pm, with stallholders from around the region braving the elements to bring you the finest local produce and handmade crafts. A JOB WELL DONE: Well done to all those involved in the spectacular and breathtaking production of the musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar' that was staged in Boyle last week. Twelve long weeks of rehearsing came to fruition in spectacular style, when the cast of ' Jesus Christ Superstar' unveiled their latest show in St. Joseph's Hall, Boyle. Well known composers, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote this highly acclaimed musical and it originally opened on Broadway in 1970. This is the first time 'Jesus Christ Superstar' has been performed in Boyle and the production team have been preparing for this show since last April. The cast of 40 have been rehearsed under the expert guidance of Director Frank O'Mahoney, Choreographer Vivian Moran and Musical Director, Ann Kielty since early September and their wealth of experience and dedication has brought the best out of every cast member for this year's show. Well done again. DEAR SANTA: Do you know a little someone who would like to receive a personal letter from the man in red himself this December? Here at the Una Bhan Craft Shop we have established a direct line to Santa Claus and we've arranged for him to reply to children's' letters this Christmas. Get your child to write their letter to Santa and post it in the special Santa Box in the Una Bhan Craft Shop. Santa's Letter Service will run from Saturday November 22nd until Monday, December 15th. EXIBITION OF ART: Boyle Library presents an exhibition of Mary Cawley 'Landscape, Seascape and Still Life' paintings during opening hours, the exhibition is on display until 18th November. EVERYTHING EXCEPT A CARAVAN: Rev. Shiela Johnson, who ministered in the whole of Co. Roscommon, and parts of Counties Sligo and Longford from 1997 until 2001, has just published her autobiography, entitled 'Everything except a Caravan'. It tells of her journey from early childhood to the present day. There were many twists and turns in that journey, and she recalls these events and all the different paths that life has taken. We hear of some of the hardships as well as the fun and loving times. All the proceeds from this book are being given to charity. THE M.S. SOCIETY OF IRELAND, (Donegal Branch) will benefit. The other charity is a Christian Hospital in Israel, St. Luke's, in Nablus. This hospital, where everyone, of whatever religious persuasion, is treated, receives no state funding so this money will go towards the provision of a CAT Scan. The cost of this publication is 12.95 euro and can be purchased at Úna Bhán Tourism craft shop, grounds of King House, Boyle.
