Architectural exhibition comes to Tubbercurry
Tubbercurry Community Library will play host to the Architectural Association of Ireland Annual Awards Exhibition from Tuesday October 6th until Saturday October 31st 2009. The 24th annual awards for excellence in architectural design will visit County Sligo before travelling to Limerick and Belfast later on this year, and showcase selected work from Irish Architectural practices as chosen by a prestigious jury of architects and nonarchitects, from both Ireland and abroad. The assessors for the AAI awards 2009 included;

Tim Robinson, artist & author, Connemara (distinguished non-architect)
The aims of the AAI Awards are to encourage higher standards of architecture throughout the country, to inform the public about emerging directions in contemporary architecture and to recognize projects that make a contribution to Irish Architecture.
The Downes Bronze medal, and main prize winner this year, was Grafton Architects outstanding Universita Luigi Bocconi in Milan. The University building has received worldwide acclaim and has already won World Building of the Year 2008, beating 224 shortlisted buildings from 43 countries along with a long list of further awards and commendations both domestically and abroad.
In addition to the Bocconi, there is an impressive list of diverse and quality work, much of which has received additional international recognition.
There is no entrance fee. Admittance will be during library opening hours, Tuesday 1-8pm, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9.30am - 5pm and Saturday 9.30am -1.30pm
