Sligo rail station in the top three in Connacht
Sligo Station narrowly missed out to Claremorris to take the title of Best Station in Connacht at this year's Best Station Award. Station Manager, Jim Doherty and Kevin McNiffe and Martin Langan travelled to Dublin to attend the ceremony.
Henry retires after 47 years
A LONG and happy retirement is wished to Corney Henry, who hangs up his boots after 47 years service with Sligo County Council.
Entries sought for 'Mr. Riverstown'
LITTLE BUDDIES 'Mr. Riverstown' fundraiser competition will now be held in Sligo Folk Park on Saturday March 27th. Local groups and clubs have been asked to put forward a personality to represent their club at this event.
Marty a big hit at GAA fund raiser
OWENMORE GAELS G.A.A. Club had a very successful fundraiser in the Castle Dargan Hotel on Friday 26th March. The function was packed to capacity which was enjoyed by all age groups and was hosted brilliantly by RTE's Marty Morrissey.
Sligo 'Rose' to march in New York parade
THE 2009 Sligo Rose, Sinead McGill, will travel to New York for St. Patrick's Day to participate in the city's parade, the largest civilian event of its kind in the world. Local people around Gurteen are proud of Sinead who has represented Sligo and her native Gurteen to the highest standard throughout the past year.
Christmas party time… in March!
FOR those senior citizens living in the area, during week commencing March 8th you will be receiving an invitation to our re-scheduled party that was postponed at Christmas due to the bad weather.
Enrolment night at secondary school
ENROLMENT NIGHT will take place in the Jesus and Mary Secondary School on Thursday March 11th from 6.30pm to 9pm. All future pupils and their parents and guardians are welcome to attend. PLAY: Troubled Bachelors, a three act play, had a wonderful run over the weekend to capacity audiences. The play was set in the rural setting of Tullabawn in 1970's and was based on three bachelors who were threatened with the loss of their homes by the local Council unless they married within a certain time.
