It's not often a festival can announce an act whose music for its sheer quality has stood the test of time, whose many hit songs i.e. "Golden Brown" are still as popular on radio today as it was on the week of its release. Sligo Live Sessions have announced THE STRANGLERS at The Radisson Blu Hotel on Friday, 22nd October 2010.

First forming in 1974, the band's straight talking approach gave them the reputation as aggressive and confrontational with their notoriety later embraced by the punk movement of 77. This led to their debut single 'Grip' and their legendary first album Rattus Norvegicus. This was followed by such hits as 'Peaches', 'No More Heroes', '5 Minutes', 'Duchess', 'Something Better Change', 'Always the Sun' and their ultimate classic 'Golden Brown'.

To date the band's success boasts 24 top 40 singles and 18 top 40 albums.

After re-signing to EMI in 2004 their last two albums 'Norfolk Coast' and 'Suite XVI' have been hailed as their best for 20 years, with hit singles 'Big Thing Coming' and 'Long Black Veil' giving the band the rare accolade of maintaining top 40 hits over 4 decades.

EMI have since re-issued their first seven albums with bonus tracks which were among the best selling catalogue releases of the year and their next four were released via SONY. Their Greatest Hits collection is a multi-million seller.

THE STRANGLERS join an amazing bill for this year's Sligo Live Sessions. The fantastic calibre of artists at this year's Sligo Live sessions include Grammy Award Winner Mary Chapin Carpenter and North Carolina native Tift Merritt; The Alan Kelly Quartet with Special Guest Eddi Reader, and Crooked Still; Former Commotions frontman, Lloyd Cole and The Lost Brothers; a night of swing with JERRY FISH AND THE MUDBUG CLUB, REPUBLIC OF LOOSE, DERVISH with special guests Moya Brennan, Cormac De Barra, Kevin Burke and Triona Ni Dhomhnaill and two Award winning Céilí bands in an Award-winning Nightclub, The Innisfree Céilí Band and The Dartry Céilí Band.
